Horizons Elementary

My name is Marcia Kinley and I am thrilled to serve as the Principal of Horizon Elementary School! It is an honor to lead a school community so deeply committed to providing all students with a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. 

As an educator, my journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, which led to fulfilling experiences at Lower Creek Elementary, West Lenoir Elementary School and Davenport A+ School. While teaching, I pursued a Master’s in Reading from Appalachian State University to ensure a passion for literacy and then later graduated with a Master’s in School Administration from Western Carolina University. During this time, I learned a great deal about Leadership as a Principal Fellows stationed at Baton Elementary School. I went from this role to serving as the Assistant Principal at Granite Falls Middle School until now. In addition to my work in schools, I bring valuable mental health experience from my time at Foothills Area Program and Day Treatment Services. These roles have, no doubt, helped shape my vision of serving students in the public education system and built my love for collaboration, empathy, equity, and high expectations to the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. 

At Horizon Elementary, I am excited to help every student thrive so they can become successful learners, while also fostering a culture where teachers feel supported and families feel heard!
